Hey S4e, I know that you are interested in having lens implants.  I have finally found a doctor who will perform the surgery, making me into a +16D hyperope.  I think that we could convince him to do a few others as well. I will be flying to India, to have this done by a Dr. Rashmeed Patel in late August.  Let me know if you are at all interested. N.J.

Thatís great news N.J.  Have you told anyone else about this?  I know that a neighbor of yours has been trying to have this surgery arranged with a local doctor for a couple of years now.  He wants to be a myope in the low 20ís.  What sort of money are you talking about, and is this the surgery where a lens is inserted in front of the iris, or is this the old type of cataract surgery where the lens is removed and replaced with another one? You are the first person I have told about this.  How many others do you know that might go for this?  If we were to come up with a reasonable number Ė say 10 others, maybe we could cut a deal for group surgery. N.J.

Ok. I do know of a few others who might be interested.  And, if they themselves are not, well they might know others.  I am gradually thinking that this desire to be either a high myope, or a high hyperope isnít as small as we originally thought it might be.  Let me know more details please. S4E

I am booked on flight 361 out of San. Fran. via LAXon August 24, with a return a week later on flight 361R.  My round trip cost is $980.64 including all taxes.  The surgery is scheduled Aug. 26.  It is the surgery where the lens is implanted in front of your real lens. I have to bring a pair of glasses that will give me an approximate correction for a 4 day period, than on Aug. 30 he will fit me with the correct contact lenses so I can gradually go into the wearing of my glasses.  He will also examine my eyes for the correct glasses prescription.  All this is going to set me back $1,000.00 per eye. Hey everyone.  I just thought you might like to know that N.J. has arranged for a doctor in India to do the lens insertion for him.  His surgery is being done on Aug. 25, at a cost of $1.000.00 per eye, including a final eye exam to determine the correct glasses prescription, and a proper contact lens exam with the appropriate contacts.  I am thinking seriously about going along with him, and seeing if I can get the same thing done.  If anyone is interested, write me back, or if you know anyone else that might be interested, let them know as well.  Maybe if we had enough people we could get the cost lowered a bit. Yes, I would be very interested.  If you are going maybe we could fly over together. Let me know. Kathi.

Count me out.  I am mostly into ladies with strong plus prescriptions, and have no interest in wearing glasses myself.  Thanks for thinking of me though. Lensliker.

I am very interested in this.  I will let my friend Nekiva know as well, as I think he would be interested as well. Rob. Laurel.

Well, as you know I thought I had things arranged to have lens implants here.  But, the doctor keeps putting me off, time and time again.  I think he is afraid of a lawsuit.  Count me in, and if you and N.J. are flying out of here, maybe all 3 of us can go together. Mdave.

I am thinking about this.  I am more into girls with glasses, but I have often thought about this.  When would you have to know by? Ad1214.

One part of me says yes, one part says no way.  Did you not invite Mario along?  His e mail is: pepaulm@french.net.  I will think about it and let you know. Glasfan

pepaulm@french.net

Sorry P., but Glasfan just reminded me that I had forgotten to include you in my e mails.  N.J. has just advised me that he is going to India to have lens implants done.  What he was quoted by the doctor was $1,000.00USD per eye.  This includes the implanted lenses, as well as contact lenses to wear over them until you are able to get glasses made up.  He will also give you your glasses prescription.   Are you at all interested? S4E

S4E@aatt.net

Hey S4E.  I am glad you included me.  Of course I am interested.  Keep me posted.   All I have to figure out is what prescription I want to wear. Specsman

I would have been very insulted if you had neglected me.  Of course I am interested.  Get to me with the details as soon as you can. Peterpaul.

Hi Q1.  I have just heard from a friend of mine who is going to go to India to have lens implants done to make him a high hyperope.  I have notified a number of my other online acquaintances, and I thought I should at least mention it to you as well.  I know you have been having a hard time trying to wear your glasses around people you know, so I rather doubt that you would be interested, but let me know.

Dear Ilaria.

A group of us are going to go to India to have lens implants done.  I donít think it is likely that you could come up with the $1,000.00 per eye that is required, nor do I think you could slip away from home for a week or so. But, I would not feel right if I did not let you know about this.  S4E

S4E@aatt.net

I could do it I think.  Let me know. Ilaria

Hey Jill.  Havenít heard from you for ages, but I thought of you when this came up.  A group of us are going to India to have lens implants done there.  The cost will be around $1,000.00USD per eye, and it will run another $900.00 to get there and back out of LAX.  If enough people will go along with this we might be able to get the cost reduced for the surgery Ė a group rate so to speak.  The grand per includes contact lenses to allow you to get back to your optician to order your own glasses.  It also includes the exam for the glasses prescription.  E mail me at S4E@aatt.net

I really donít think having lens I,plants to force me to wear strong glasses would be the way to sort out my present situation.  So, I will pass on this offer.  Thanks anyway S4e.

I donít know why I checked this old e mail address S4E, but I did.  Since I read your note I have been so exited.  I thought my chances to wear strong glasses were over with since I messed up by over wearing my plus contacts.  My Ė3.50D that I ended up with after the contacts fiasco has gone up to Ė5D, but it still isnít the same as wearing Ė25D.  I have to go along for this. Jill

I talked with Nekiva, and he is wanting very badly to go also.  His e mail is

S4E@aatt.net

Yes, I have decided.  I will go for it.  I will probably only get Ė10D, but that will be enough for my desire.   Glasfan

Hi Everyone:

Ok, so far, if everyone goes along, we have 11 people for lens implants.  According to N.J., the doctor who is going to do this for us is Dr. Rashmeed Patel.  I checked into his qualifications, and he trained in the US, at a noted hospital.  N.J. has been in further contact with him, and Dr. Patel has advised that with 10 or more people booked, he is willing to drop his rate to $1,500.00USD for both eyes.  This will include the lenses, and the required contacts.  He will also do a final refraction to determine your spectacle prescription.  The date of the operations will be August 26.  N.J., Mdave, Kathi Mason Jill and I will all be flying out of L.A. on the same flight on August 24.  The date for the contact fittings and glasses exam will be August 30, and we can return home after this.

I will require a non refundable deposit of 50% of the cost, and everyone will be responsible for their own airfare.

THE END

From the twisted mind of Specs4ever, June 2004.  Names have been changed to protect the innocent, and all the e mail addresses are imaginary.  If I left you off the list, it is unintentional, as I am sure that most participants will recognize their guise.
